Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Burna Boy says he writes all his own songs, sparking debate about songwriting in Afrobeats.

Burna Boy stated during a Twitch livestream with Plaqueboymax that he doesn't use songwriters, emphasizing that music is a personal form of self-expression that comes from his own experiences and emotions. 

Burna Boy criticized the growing trend in Nigeria where artists outsource songwriting, contrasting it with his own approach. He noted that in Los Angeles, he observed similar practices, implying that Nigeria shouldn't follow suit.

Burna Boy's comments have sparked online debate, with fans revisiting past allegations of ghostwriting in the music industry, particularly claims involving artists like Ceeza Milli, Yonda, and Peruzzi, who allegedly contributed to popular songs.

Burna Boy admitted Peruzzi's contribution to one song in 2020 but denied other ghostwriting allegations, affirming that his music is largely his own work.
