Arthritis is used to describe about 200 different rheumatic diseases and conditions that affect the tissues and body joints. The symptoms of arthritis include redness, swelling, pain, fatigue, weight loss. fever and inflammation of the joint. The term "arthritis" refers to a disorder in the joint. The causes of arthritis is not clear, but factors like injury, over used of joints, infections, genetic makeup, abnormal metabolism and immune system dysfunction can lead to arthritis development. Since arthritis is not curable, early diagnosis will help a patient, because it will prevent permanent damage and disability, it will also help in knowing the type of arthritis the patient is suffering from.

It affects people of different sex and all ages, although it majorly affects the aged. It is not only the joints that it affects but other organs of the body, depending on the type of arthritis. There are different types of arthritis, the most common is osteoarthritis. It starts with roughening of the cartilage, causing pain, swelling and stiffness, Osteoarthritis usually affects more women than men, age 45 and above are the people who suffered the most. In the early stage of osteoarthritis, there may not be pains. But damage can be caused inside the affected joint. Osteoathritis is commonly caused by injuries or when the joints are overused.

Another type of arthritis is gout or pseudogout, this type of arthritis is usually caused by metabolic abnormalities or a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints.
Rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematous are the other types of arthritis. They can be caused by hereditary factors, effects of infections and immune system-related problems.

How to manage arthritis
