Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, a prominent Nigerian billionaire businesswoman and philanthropist, has lost her eyesight completely.
Her blindness occurred approximately a week after she attended the launch of former Nigerian military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s (IBB) autobiography, A Journey in Service, on February 20, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The event, which also served as a fundraiser for the IBB Presidential Library, was attended by numerous high-profile figures, and Alakija reportedly made an undisclosed donation.
According to Kemi Olunloyo, a Nigerian investigative journalist, Alakija’s vision loss is linked to a health crisis that began after a near air mishap while traveling. The incident allegedly caused a significant spike in her blood pressure, which impacted her eyesight.
