Pope Francis Passes Away at 88

 

Pope Francis, the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church, has passed away at the age of 88. He died on April 21, 2025, at his residence, the Domus Sanctae Marthae in Vatican City.

The cause of death has not been disclosed, but Pope Francis had recently been hospitalized for an infection that progressed to pneumonia in both lungs.

Pope Francis had been struggling with health issues, including lung damage, knee problems, and sciatica, which led to frequent use of mobility aids. He had also been hospitalized multiple times in recent years for respiratory infections and abdominal surgery. The Pope's passing was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, and he is expected to be buried at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore as per his wishes.
