Senator Natasha Gains Entry to National Assembly on Foot

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived at the National Assembly on July 22, 2025, to resume her duties, following a court order that reinstated her.

However, security operatives initially barred her vehicle from entering the premises at the Mopol Gate, prompting her to proceed on foot.

Accompanied by activist Aisha Yesufu and other supporters, she walked approximately one kilometer to the main entrance of the complex, drawing significant attention and causing tension.

The Senate, through Senator Yemi Adaramodu, maintained that the court’s ruling was an “advisory opinion” rather than a binding directive, and had warned her against resuming duties before her six-month suspension ended. The standoff escalated as supporters chanted and confronted security, with Akpoti-Uduaghan vowing to pursue further legal action at the Court of Appeal, accusing Senate leadership of contempt of court.
