Emir of Kano Condemns Appointment of Thieves in Public Office

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has opposed the appointment of corrupt individuals to public positions.
The former Central Bank Governor lamented that the country's value system has deteriorated, with material wealth now prioritized over honesty and integrity.
He expressed concern that individuals who have looted public funds are often rewarded with ministerial appointments and other public opportunities, encouraging more corruption.
Sanusi emphasized that people go into government for the purpose of accumulating wealth.
“A society in which material wealth, no matter how you get it, is respected… where people who are known to have stolen money get rewarded with ministerial appointments… that society will continue to reproduce itself,” Sanusi
.“Many people go into government to make money, but you don’t go into government to make money.
“We have been ruled by people who have no values… They define themselves by what they own: houses, private jets, billions in bank accounts.”
