The post sparked backlash, with many Nigerians criticizing it as insensitive or dangerous.

He wrote,

"Nigeria can become great again. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on context) a few certain people have to kpai to achieve this dream."

Some saw his comment as a veiled threat against political opponent, especially since his father has aligned with figures like Peter Obi against President Tinubu ahead of 2027 elections.

Others turned the tables, implying Bashir's statement might apply to his own father, Nasir El-Rufai, who faces allegations of misappropriating ₦432 billion. Bashir later clarified that he recognizes his father's imperfections.
