Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the country's foreign minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian were killed in a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border on Sunday after their helicopter crashed in a foggy, mountainous region of the country.
The foggy weather hindered the search and rescue operations for hours before the crash site was found.
Raisi, 63, and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were returning from a ceremony for an opening of a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, state media reported.
