"Let the Gods Come and Talk to Me" - How the Ooni of Ife Cleared the Path for Dangote's Mega Refinery

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote during an event in Lagos where he launched a N100 billion annual education support initiative, publicly thanked the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, for his crucial role in the construction of the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

Dangote recounted that the project site had over 19 shrines, and workers/superstitions from local communities prevented anyone from approaching or removing them, causing significant delays.

According to him, the Ooni of Ife, a highly respected traditional ruler took a bold step by removing shrines on the land used for the factory, reportedly saying the gods should come and talk to him.

The Ooni personally visited the site and boldly declared: “Remove all of them. Let the gods come and talk to me.”This intervention cleared the way for construction to proceed.

Dangote emphasized that without the Ooni's action, the refinery, world's largest single train facility with 650,000 barrels per day capacity, might not have been built.
