Anthony Joshua Injured in Car Crash, Suffers Leg Fracture

British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria on December 29, 2025, and suffered a leg fracture.

The Lexus SUV he was traveling in as a passenger collided with a stationary truck, killing two close friends and team members, his strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Kevin "Latif" Ayodele.

Joshua and the driver survived, with Joshua initially described as stable with minor injuries. However, recent reports from Nigerian media outlets (Vanguard and Legit.ng, citing unnamed sources close to the investigation) claimed Joshua suffered a leg fracture and that the driver may face prosecution for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

These reports point to preliminary findings of excessive speed and wrongful overtaking by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), though some accounts also mention a possible tire burst.

Authorities have not issued an official public confirmation on the fracture or charges as of December 31, 2025, and investigations remain ongoing.

Joshua, visiting family roots in Nigeria after his December 19 knockout win over Jake Paul, remains in hospital for observation and treatment. Tributes have poured in for the deceased, and the incident has sparked discussions on road safety in Nigeria.
