I Came Up with 'Detty December' - Mr Eazi

Nigerian singer and entrepreneur, Mr Eazi has claimed that he coined the phrase “Detty December,” which has since become synonymous with festive fun during the Christmas holidays in Nigeria.

Mr Eazi made this known while promoting his concert in Ghana. He stated that he wanted a catchy name for his December event, and "Detty December" was born. 

The phrase has since become a popular way to describe the festive season in Nigeria, representing a time for fun, celebration, and reconnecting with loved ones.

Interestingly, there's been some debate over ownership of the phrase, with Deola Art Alade, wife of musician Darey Art Alade, trademarking it in 2019. 

However, Mr Eazi emphasizes that "Detty December" is bigger than him or anyone else, for everyone to enjoy.

“While working as a show promoter with my friends, I suggested that we call our December event ‘Detty December.’ Hashtag Detty December.

“So in 2016, me and my guys invented Detty December. And Detty December is all about going back to your roots, having fun and enjoying life intentionally. Detty December is bigger than Mr. Eazi. It’s bigger than anybody. Detty December is for all of us,” he said.
