“I’m Banking on Nigeria Not Getting Better” - Keji Giwa

Nigerian billionaire businessman and real estate mogul Keji Giwa has set social media ablaze after making controversial remarks during a recent appearance on the Outside the Box podcast.

In the viral clip, the founder of Digital Landlords and projects like Giwa Gardens Water Park openly declared that he is not praying for Nigeria’s improvement. Infact, he is “banking” on the opposite. 

"My prayer is different from yours. I’m banking on Nigeria not getting better,” Giwa stated bluntly.”

“Anybody doing business in Nigeria that doesn’t think politics is part and parcel of their success... has no business doing business in Nigeria.”

Giwa argued that politics and business in Nigeria are inseparable, stressing that any entrepreneur who fails to understand this risks losing everything.

He also defended his support for President Bola Tinubu, saying he has no regrets and that aligning with power is necessary for protecting investments. 

The entrepreneur further revealed that he thrives in the country’s challenging environment, claiming he even prayed for visa bans by countries like Dubai and Qatar to remain permanent so skilled Nigerians would stay home and contribute to the local economy in ways that benefit businesses like his.

While some netizens praised Giwa for his “brutal honesty” about how the elite navigate Nigeria’s realities, many others slammed him as selfish and out of touch with the struggles of ordinary citizens facing high inflation and economic hardship. 

Calls for boycotts of his real estate and hospitality projects, including Giwa Gardens, have begun trending, with critics accusing him of profiting from national pain.

Giwa, a UK-born Nigerian entrepreneur with a background in computer science from Kingston University, has built a reputation for unfiltered opinions on business, relationships, and national issues.
