“I Don’t Envy Married People, 80% Are Back on the Streets” — Nkechi Blessing

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday says she’s not envious of married people, claiming “most of them are back on the streets” as she reflects on personal growth and relationship choices.

In a post on her Instagram page, the 37-year-old actress questioned the relevance of marriage, revealing that her views were shaped by watching others’ experiences.

“You think I envy married people? God forbid. 80% of the ones I once admired are now back on the streets. Who marriage help Abeg”

Nkechi said a significant number of those she previously looked up to in marriage have since separated, calling it a “recurring pattern” that influenced her perspective.

The actress explained that her stance isn’t from family pressure but from observation. She noted that outsiders, not relatives, are the ones telling her to marry. Her late mother, she said, never pressured her to get married.

Nkechi has consistently urged women to prioritize financial independence over marital status. “Woman to woman, you should be more afraid of being poor than being unmarried. Singleness doesn’t take away your worth, but poverty can take away your choices.”

Nkechi, who declared herself single in May 2025 after her 2021 marriage to Opeyemi Falegan ended, has been vocal about celebrity relationships. She argues marriage isn’t for everyone, especially those in the public eye, because “societal expectations often pressure celebrities into unions they might not be prepared for.”

She’s also complained about 5,000+ men flooding her DMs with marriage proposals after her number leaked, but insists: “I am single, but I am not searching.”
