My Biggest Music Battles Were Spiritual, Not Charts or Beefs – Nicki Minaj

Rap icon Nicki Minaj has revealed that her biggest battles in music weren’t about charts or beefs, but were spiritual.

Speaking on The Bryce Crawford Podcast, Minaj revealed that her career has been defined by what she calls “constant spiritual warfare” for refusing to “play by the rules” of powerful industry figures.

“It was constant spiritual warfare. I wish I kind of knew sooner that this music industry was such a spiritual experience because I felt like I brought a knife to a gunfight.”

Minaj claimed unnamed “powerful music figures” make talented artists “almost invisible” if they don’t abide by their rules. She said those gatekeepers treat musicians like “properties” to make money for them and sabotage those who don’t work for them.

According to Minaj, these figures control access, visibility and opportunity, shaping who succeeds and who is sidelined.

The Pink Friday rapper said if she’d known the industry was “deeply spiritual,” she would have come better prepared. She described a system where artists are treated less like creatives and more like assets designed to generate profit. 

This isn’t Minaj’s first time linking faith to fame. On the same podcast, timestamps show she discussed “Spiritual Warfare, Illuminati, and the Music Industry,” her grandmother’s prayers, and why fame made her stop going to church. She’s also recently invoked her Christian faith publicly, writing, “Blessed is the MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. Every tongue that rises up against me in judgement shall be condemned.”
