“It’s Jesus’ Church, Not Mine” – Pastor Kumuyi Says He’ll Never Hand Deeper Life to His Sons

Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has explained why leadership of the church will never be passed down to his biological children.

Speaking during a recent ministers’ conference that has since gone viral, the 84-year-old founder made his stance clear on succession.

“The reason why I will never handover Deeper Life church to any of my biological sons is because the church doesn’t belong to me. It’s Jesus’ church. Nobody has right to hand it over to his son.”

Kumuyi was addressing growing questions about the future of the ministry he founded in 1973. Unlike some churches where leadership becomes hereditary, he stressed that Deeper Life was not a family business.

“I didn’t build it for my lineage. I was only called to serve. The Owner will choose who continues.”
The clip hit X, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups within hours, sparking wide conversation.

Many applauded the statement as a rare stance on church leadership.

“This is how it should be. The pulpit is not an inheritance,” one user wrote.

“Papa is teaching accountability. Respect,” said another.

Others noted it contrasts with trends in Nigerian megachurches where sons often take over from fathers.
