“I Can Never Marry a Nigerian” – DJ Cuppy Opens Up About Past Relationship Red Flags
Nigerian DJ, singer, and billionaire heiress Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has sparked widespread reactions online after revealing she has no plans to marry a Nigerian man, citing experiences from her past relationships.
During a recent appearance on the 3 Shots of Tequila podcast, the 33-year-old daughter of businessman Femi Otedola shared candid thoughts on love, marriage, and the challenges of dating while coming from a prominent family.
“I can never marry a Nigerian, it’s impossible. The last one I dated was asking when he could meet my dad. I don’t even think they like me,” Cuppy stated. She added that her father “doesn’t even care who I marry… he just wants me to get married,” and expressed happiness for her sister Temi’s union with musician Mr Eazi.

Cuppy suggested that some Nigerian men she encountered seemed more interested in connecting with her influential family than in building a genuine relationship with her.
She described feeling overshadowed by her father’s status and expressed a desire for a partner who loves her for herself, independent of her family’s wealth and connections.
Her comments come after her high-profile broken engagement to British boxer Ryan Taylor. The pair called off their engagement in 2024 after getting engaged in 2023. Notably, Taylor had previously made his own remarks about their relationship dynamics.
DJ Cuppy has been open in recent years about her dating journey, including preferences for low-key partners and reflections on past heartbreaks. She has previously dated international figures and continues to focus on her music career, philanthropy, and personal growth.
