Davido Reveals Plans to Venture into Nollywood as an Actor and Producer

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his intention to expand his entertainment empire into acting and film production, signaling a major crossover into Nollywood. 

In a recent interview with Vibe Q, the “OBO” crooner expressed his eagerness to step in front of the camera while already making moves behind the scenes. 

“I want to get into movies. I want to start acting soon. I have invested in two movies already as an executive producer. I also have a documentary coming. It is very very big. And yeah, I do want to act at some point in the future.”

The singer revealed that he is collaborating with longtime music video director Dammy Twitch on the two film projects where he serves as executive producer. He also hinted at a major upcoming documentary that fans can anticipate soon. 

Davido said going into film feels like the next step for him. He compared music to technology, as both keep changing and growing. 

“There’s always a new sound, a new creative idea and a new way to tell your story,” he said, emphasizing his desire to keep pushing boundaries despite his massive success in music.

This isn’t Davido’s first hint at entering the film world. In previous interviews and panel appearances (such as at AFRIFF), he has spoken about his interest in producing authentic African stories and even expressed interest in unconventional acting roles, like playing a taxi driver, to surprise his fans. He has cited inspirations like 50 Cent’s successful transition from music to film and TV production. 

The award-winning artist, who has built a global brand through hits, business ventures in fashion, hospitality, and entertainment, views film as another avenue to support the Nigerian creative industry and tell compelling stories.
