“I Have Never Dated a Guy Who Asked Me for Money” — Toke Makinwa Speaks on Dating
Media personality and author Toke Makinwa has weighed in on dating, money, and expectations, saying she’s never been in a situation where a man asked her for financial help.
The TV host and entrepreneur made the comment during a recent conversation about relationships and independence.
“When I hear women say these things, I sit down and I ask myself…..”Men don’t ask me for money?”Maybe there is something written on my head. Maybe before you say ….I give you all my problems. Before you ask me, I am already listing all my problems…Today I have headache,,,maybe that is why! I have never dated a guy who asked me for money.

“Even if I date a broke guy and he earns 5k, at least 3k out of that money, he will give it to me. I am thankful for that grace because I have never dated a guy who has confidently asked me for money.”
Toke said her experience with dating has been different from what many women share online.
She explained that for her, dating has always been about mutual respect and being with people who are already secure and ambitious.
Toke, who has been very open about self-worth and healing in past interviews, added that being financially independent herself has shaped the kind of relationships she attracts.
“When you know who you are and you’re doing well for yourself, you attract a certain kind of energy,” she noted. “I’m not saying women should pay men’s bills. I’m just saying I’ve been fortunate.”
She also emphasized that asking for money in a relationship isn’t automatically wrong, it just hasn’t been her experience.
