"Stop Begging Musicians, What Are Governors Doing With Public Funds?" - Isaac Fayose To Remi Tinubu

Nigerian businessman and social commentator, Isaac Fayose, has called out First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu after she urged Afrobeats stars Asake, Davido, and Burna Boy to help raise funds for charity.

The controversy started when the First Lady, speaking at a recent event, appealed to top Nigerian entertainers to use their influence and wealth to support humanitarian causes. She specifically mentioned Asake, Davido, and Burna Boy as people who "can do more" for the country.

But Isaac Fayose didn’t hold back, in a video that has since gone viral, Fayose questioned why the government is turning to musicians when elected officials control public money.

"What are the Governors doing with public funds? What is the government doing with our money?"   

"We have 36 Governors, we have Ministers, we have LG Chairmen. Why are you asking Asake and Burna Boy to come and do government’s job?"

The clip quickly sparked debate online. Many Nigerians agreed with Fayose, saying it’s the responsibility of government to provide social services, not celebrities.

Some comments on X and Instagram,

"Remi Tinubu asking Burna and Davido for money is crazy. Where is the budget going to?"

"Government should fund charities, not drag artists into it."

"Isaac Fayose said the truth. Celebrities are not the government."

Others, however, defended the First Lady, saying celebrity philanthropy is normal worldwide and artists should also give back.

This isn’t the first time Fayose has criticized government spending. He’s known for speaking bluntly about governance, corruption, and accountability.
