Veekee James Talks About Her Father, Single Mom, and How She Made It In Fashion

Popular Nigerian fashion designer and entrepreneur Veekee James has shared an emotional tribute to her mother, highlighting the profound influence her single mother had on shaping her life, career, and values.

In a heartfelt reflection, Veekee recounted how her mother remained steadfast after the passing of her father, choosing not to remarry so she could fully focus on raising her children.

“I’ve never seen my mom date any man before. Since I lost my dad, my mom has never slept outside the house if it’s not night vigil. When my dad passed, my pastor asked if she wanted to remarry and she said no, she wanted to take care of us, her kids, My mom hustled so hard in Ajegunle. She made clothes for so many people. She taught me tailoring and advised me not to follow men,” Veekee shared.

The designer, who was raised in the tough streets of Ajegunle, Lagos, praised her mother’s relentless hustle as a tailor. Her mother’s hard work not only provided for the family but also planted the seeds for Veekee’s own thriving fashion career.

“My mom hustled so hard in Ajegunle. She made clothes for so many people. She taught me tailoring and advised me not to follow men,” Veekee added.

According to earlier interviews, Veekee’s mother, Esther James, was a skilled tailor who trained young girls and single-handedly raised the family after Augustine James passed away when the children were young. This environment of creativity, resilience, and discipline directly inspired Veekee to launch her own brand, which offers unisex fashion services to clients locally and internationally.

Her journey from Ajegunle to building a recognized fashion label has often been cited as an inspiring rags-to-riches tale in Nigeria’s creative industry.

Veekee James continues to make waves in the fashion space, known for her bold designs, business acumen, and openness about her personal growth and family life.
