Winnie Madikizela Mandela is gone

Winnie Madikizela_ Mandela the South African anti_apartheid activist and former wife of late President Nelson Mandela died in the early hours of Monday morning at age 81, surrounded by her family. Winnie Madikizela Mandela is popularly known as 'Mother of the Nation'. She was born September 26, 1936 in the village of Mbongweni in what is now Eastern Cape.

After university, she became the first qualified black social worker at Johannesburg's Baragwanath hospital.The young activist met Nelson Mandela in 1957. She married Nelson Mandela in June 1958. She was married to Nelson for 38years, during those years, she played a major role in apartheid struggle. She was a strong woman even though her record was later strained, she will be greatly missed and remembered.
