Kaftan/Senator styles

Kaftan/Caftan is a a variant of the robe or tunic and has and is been worn all over the world. The kaftan has been worn over thousands of years and it is of Asiatic origin.

In some culture around the world, kaftan is worn by the royals, it served as a symbol of royalty. It was worn by the sultans. It was also used to show the rank of the person wearing it.

It can be worn in different ways such as a coat which some people prefer and overdress. It may have a short, medium or long sleeve.

Fashion designers like Christian Dior and Balenciaga adopted the kaftan as a loose evening gown or robe in their collections in the 1950s.

In Nigeria, kaftan has been modified to create style and taste that people have come to accept and it has been given the name "Senator". It is worn by male and female either causally or for special occasions and events.

This popular design was introduced by a senate during Obasanjo regime (2000_2003), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim and it has been a favorite of a lot of people worn by male and female. The difference between kaftan and senator is really the fabric. Kaftan is usually sewn with different materials but senator is made by using senator material.
