King Charles Declares His Intention To Serve As He Is Proclaimed Monarch

 

King Charles, 73, has declared his intention on Saturday morning to serve and search for peace, harmony and prosperity of the people, the Commonwealth realms and territories throughout the world as he was officially proclaimed Britain's new monarch.

The ceremony was held at St. James’s Palace, a Tudor royal residence near Buckingham Palace. The proclamation of King Charles III was broadcast live, adding modernization to the event.

"Sorrowful duty to announce the death of my beloved mother, the Queen. Her reign was “unequalled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion,” Charles said.

"I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of Sovereignty which have now passed to me," Charles said.

"In taking up these responsibilities, I shall strive to follow the inspiring example I have been set in upholding constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands and of the Commonwealth realms and territories throughout the world."

Charles, the longest-serving heir automatically succeeded his mother, Elizabeth II, after her death on Thursday, at the age of 96 with a reign that lasted seven decades.
