Patience Ozokwor Reveals Why Nollywood Actors Stay Broke

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has revealed why many actors in the industry struggle financially. She attributes this to the lack of royalties, stating that actors are paid only once for their work, with no residual income from repeated broadcasts or streaming.

Ozokwor explained that unlike actors in developed countries, Nollywood actors don't receive ongoing payments for their work, leaving them dependent on constant projects to make ends meet. This has led many actors to explore alternative platforms like YouTube, which help them to earn directly from their content.

The actress emphasized that the absence of royalties affects not just the actors' current financial situation but also their future, as they don't have a steady income stream even after their death, unlike actors in Hollywood.

“The reason why Nollywood actors and actresses are poor is because we don’t get Royalties for what we do, we only get paid for our appearance at the shoot. That’s why everyone is running to YouTube.”
