“Only a Few Nigerian Artists Are Not Cultists” - Naira Marley Claims

Nigerian rapper Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley stirred conversation on social media by claiming that only a small number of Nigerian artists have not joined cult groups. He wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account that “we no reach 5 weh never join cult for this industry,” implying that fewer than five artists in the entire music scene are free from cult affiliations. 

Marley also mocked colleagues who allegedly joined cults for power or supposed protection, pointing out the irony that some of those who introduce others to cults still use police escorts for security. 

Naira Marley has repeatedly denied being a cultist himself, stating in the past that he was even threatened by cultists for refusing to join their ranks.

Marley issued a sort of disclaimer that if any deaths or attacks occur in the industry, they shouldn’t be pinned on him, alluding to ongoing tensions and long-running controversies connected to some high-profile artist deaths. 

Naira Marley's remarks come at a time when Nigeria is already engaged in intense conversations about violence, safety, and responsibility within the entertainment industry, conversations that have grown especially emotional in the wake of the late singer Mohbad’s death and the wider debate about the culture of the music scene.
