Pope Leo XIV is standing firm against President Donald Trump's criticism. He emphasized that his role is to promote peace and the Gospel, not to engage in political debates. 

This comes after Trump called Pope Leo "WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy" on Truth Social, criticizing his stance on Iran and nuclear weapons.

"We are not politicians. We don’t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective you might understand it, but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker."

The US president has repeatedly clashed with the pontiff over the Iran conflict and migration policy, with Trump faulting the Vatican’s position on US military actions and border enforcement.

Pope Leo has been vocal about promoting peace, urging leaders to "lay down their arms" and "choose peace". He's also spoken out against war and violence, saying Jesus "rejects war" and doesn't listen to prayers from those who wage war.
