Federal Government to Replace NYSC Khaki With Adire Fabric

In a move that has fashion lovers and cultural enthusiasts buzzing with surprise, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has officially confirmed that the iconic NYSC khaki uniform is getting the boot.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, the minister dropped the news that’s already trending harder than a celebrity breakup, Nigeria’s corps members are about to serve in style.

“For years, our corps members have worn the same khaki. It’s time to celebrate who we are,” the Minister said.

Adire is proudly Nigerian. We’re moving away from plain khaki to something that reflects our identity, creativity, and youth culture.”

“It’s Adire. So, Adire is being produced in Nigeria. We have them in Ogun, we have them in Kwara... Let’s put our money back into the country.”

This uniform swap is part of wider NYSC reforms approved under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at making the scheme more skills-focused, locally driven and bearable.

The government is pushing local production to boost textile makers, create jobs, and keep naira circulating at home instead of funding foreign khaki imports.
