President Muhammad Buhari condoles the family of Uwaila Vera Omozuwa

President Muhammad Buhari condoled the of Uwaila Vera Omozuwa, a student of University of Benin UNIBEN, who was raped and later died. The 22-year-old died on May 30. Muhammad Buhari wants the police to speedily investigate the case and the culprits brought to justice.

"I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Uwaila Omozuwa. I expect the Nigerian Police Force to speedily and diligently investigate this case and ensure that all the culprits responsible for this barbaric act are brought to justice," he said.

Omozuwa decided to do some private studies during the lockdown because the church was quite. She do collect key from the parish pastor and would return it after her studies.

But that day the university student didn't return the key as she usually does. The night guard who resumed duty found her in a pool of her own blood and half-naked in the church hall.

Omozuwa was taken to hospital where doctors battled to save her, but Omozuwa died 3days later.

RCCG Spokesperson Olaitan Olubiyi said Omozuwa was a member of the church choir who had studied private at the church since lockdown measure due to coronavirus.

According to daily trust, Omozuwa assailants stalked her and she was dragged into the church building, was brutally gang-raped her and they smashed her head with a fire extinguisher and left her half dead. By the time she was rushed to the hospital she had slipped into unconsciousness.

According to the spokesman of Edo Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, he said that the suspect was arrested after the fingerprint on the fire extinguisher she was attacked with was examined.
